Tragic Drowning of Six-Year-Old Boy in Amroha Pond After Lengthy Search
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Amroha district as a six-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Bilna village, located under the Naugawan Sadat police station area. The young victim, identified as Mohd Atif, tragically lost his life, with his body being recovered on Thursday following an extensive search operation that lasted nearly 20 hours.
Disappearance and Initial Search Efforts
The sequence of events began on Wednesday when Mohd Atif was riding his bicycle near his family home. When he failed to return, his father—a local scrap dealer—along with other concerned family members, initiated a frantic search. Despite their efforts, no trace of the boy could be found initially, heightening anxiety in the community.
Late that night, a crucial clue emerged: Atif's bicycle was discovered near a pond on the outskirts of Bilna village. This discovery immediately raised grave fears that the child might have accidentally fallen into the water, prompting urgent action from authorities.
Police and SDRF Launch Intensive Operation
Upon receiving the missing child report, police personnel swiftly arrived at the scene and commenced search operations overnight. The search intensified on Thursday morning with the deployment of a specialized State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team, which joined the efforts to locate the boy.
After approximately two hours of coordinated diving and searching, the SDRF team successfully recovered Atif's body from the pond. CCTV footage from the area later confirmed that the boy had indeed been heading toward the pond, corroborating the tragic turn of events.
Official Statement and Legal Proceedings
Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav provided details on the response, stating, "Police launched a search immediately after receiving the missing child report and continued it through the night with the help of divers and the SDRF team. The child was found in the pond the next morning."
Following the recovery, the body was sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. In a significant legal development, authorities have registered a case against unidentified persons under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to kidnapping charges, indicating that the investigation is exploring all possible angles surrounding the incident.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
This tragic drowning has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting urgent safety concerns regarding water bodies in residential areas. The incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by young children and the critical need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures near ponds and other hazardous locations.
The exhaustive 20-hour search operation, involving multiple agencies, reflects the dedication of emergency responders in such distressing situations. However, the outcome serves as a somber reminder of the importance of community awareness and child safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
