Basti Boy Thrown into Burning Tandoor for Eating Rasgullas at Wedding
In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, an 11-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a burning tandoor (clay oven) for eating rasgullas during a wedding ceremony, as confirmed by police on Friday. The severely burnt child has been referred to Lucknow Medical College, where his condition is currently reported as stable.
Details of the Horrific Incident
The incident occurred on the night of April 15 during a wedding function in Malauli Gosai village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chhawani police station in Basti district. According to police sources, the victim, identified as Chaman alias Amar, is a resident of Durjanpur village in Gonda. He was staying at his maternal grandparents' house in Baghanala, Basti, and had accompanied his maternal grandmother to attend a relative's wedding.
It is alleged that the catering contractor, angered by the child repeatedly taking rasgullas from the food counter, first threatened him. In a brutal escalation, the contractor then picked up the boy and placed him onto the burning tandoor. During the ensuing struggle, the child lost his balance and fell into the tandoor, leading to severe injuries.
Immediate Response and Medical Treatment
Hearing the child's screams, family members rushed to pull him out of the tandoor. However, by that time, he had sustained severe burns from his face to his waist. He was initially taken to Ayodhya Medical College for emergency treatment before being referred to Lucknow Medical College for further care. Medical authorities have stated that his condition is now stable, though he remains under observation for the extensive burns.
Legal Action and Police Investigation
Acting on a written complaint filed by the child's maternal uncle, Devideen Nishad, police registered a case on Thursday against unidentified persons. The case has been filed under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused catering contractor is currently absconding, and police are conducting intensive raids to trace and arrest him.
Circle officer (CO) Harraiya, Swanima Singh, has confirmed the incident and assured that the investigation is ongoing. Police are also reviewing security measures at public events to prevent such tragedies in the future.
This appalling case has sparked outrage in the community, highlighting concerns over child safety and violence at social gatherings. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward to aid in the swift apprehension of the perpetrator.
