A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning at a Border Security Force (BSF) campus in Indore, where a long-serving cook was discovered dead. The discovery has sent shockwaves through the force and prompted an immediate police investigation.
Discovery of the Deceased Jawan
The incident came to light when Rambabu, a 50-year-old jawan working as a cook, failed to report for duty at the scheduled time at the mess. Concerned by his absence, a colleague went to check on him at the Vikramaditya Mess located within the BSF campus on Airport Road. Upon reaching the second floor, the colleague made the grim discovery of Rambabu's body.
The body was found hanging from the railing. Authorities were alerted immediately, and the Aerodrome police were summoned to the scene. According to station in-charge Tarun Bhati, the incident occurred around 7:30 am.
Investigation and Official Statements
Preliminary investigations by the police point towards suicide, although the exact motive remains unclear. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Police officials have seized Rambabu's mobile phone for a detailed examination to piece together the events leading to his death.
BSF Inspector General Alok Kumar Singh addressed the media, calling it an unfortunate incident. He revealed that senior officers and medical staff were aware of and concerned about Rambabu's struggle with hyper alcoholism.
The body was sent to the district hospital for a postmortem examination. BSF officials will hand over the remains to his family after the autopsy is completed.
Profile of the Deceased and Aftermath
The deceased, Rambabu, was a dedicated member of the force for nearly three decades. Originally hailing from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, he had been posted in Indore for just the past two years. He is survived by two children.
While the investigation is ongoing, this incident has highlighted the need for continued focus on the mental well-being and support systems for personnel within security forces. The police are diligently working to uncover the reason behind this extreme step.
