BSF Jawan's Reckless Firing Critically Injures Wedding Guest
A joyous wedding celebration in Etawah turned into a scene of panic and horror late on Sunday night when a guest was seriously injured by celebratory gunfire. The incident occurred at a guesthouse in Takha town, falling under the jurisdiction of the Usrahar police station.
The victim, identified as Suryakant Gupta, a resident of Nagariya Khanabandh, was dancing to DJ music when another guest suddenly fired a pistol. The bullet struck Gupta in the stomach, causing immediate chaos among the wedding attendees.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Gupta was rushed to a hospital with police assistance. Given his critical condition, he was later referred to a private hospital in Agra, where he continues to undergo treatment. Police, upon receiving information, swiftly arrived at the scene and launched a detailed investigation.
The preliminary inquiry revealed a shocking detail: the person who fired the shot is a serving Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. Police officers, accompanied by the groom, visited the accused's house and collected crucial evidence, including the licensed pistol used in the incident.
Accused Identified and Action Taken
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava provided key details about the accused. He has been identified as Shesh Kumar Yadav, son of Tejpal Yadav, originally from Nagla Khangar in Firozabad but currently residing in Friends Colony, Etawah. Yadav is posted with the BSF in Jaisalmer.
The police have already taken the accused into custody and seized the pistol. SSP Srivastava stated that the process to cancel Yadav's arms licence, which was issued in Jammu and Kashmir, has been formally initiated. Furthermore, a letter will be sent to his BSF commandant recommending strict disciplinary action, which includes dismissal from service.
Police Appeal and Directives
In the wake of this alarming incident, SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava issued a strong appeal to the public regarding the ban on celebratory firing at weddings and other social events. He emphasized the grave dangers and legal consequences of such acts.
The SSP also directed all guesthouse operators in the district to obtain a written assurance from clients before confirming any booking. This assurance must explicitly state that no celebratory firing will take place during the event, placing responsibility on the hosts to prevent such occurrences.
This case highlights the persistent and deadly menace of celebratory firing, a practice that has led to numerous fatalities and injuries across India, turning moments of celebration into lifelong tragedies.
