Bull Mother Farm Trisection Emerges as Dangerous Accident Zone in Bhopal
The list of accident-prone zones in Bhopal continues to expand with growing concern, as the Bull Mother Farm trisection has now been identified as a hazardous location due to increasing traffic volume and inadequate safety measures. This development highlights critical infrastructure gaps that are putting commuters at risk on a daily basis.
Blind Turn Creates Major Confusion for Motorists
Commuters have repeatedly raised alarms about the unclear and blind left turn toward Kaliasot Road, which has become a significant point of confusion for drivers navigating the area. The trisection, particularly the turn leading to Kaliasot Road, suffers from severely limited visibility that compromises road safety.
The absence of a divider or median on the Kaliasot and Kerwa Dam stretch creates a dangerous situation where vehicles approaching from the Sakshi Dhaba side cannot properly see oncoming traffic from the Kaliasot direction. This visibility deficit forces drivers to exercise extreme caution to avoid potential collisions that could occur at any moment.
Recent Fatality Highlights Urgent Safety Concerns
Approximately one week ago, a tragic incident underscored the dangers of this location when a speeding SUV allegedly collided with a motorcycle carrying a 24-year-old youth near the Bull Mother Farm trisection on February 12 during afternoon hours. The young victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he tragically passed away while undergoing treatment within a couple of hours.
This fatal accident has intensified calls for immediate safety improvements at what has become recognized as one of Bhopal's most dangerous road intersections.
Traffic Surge and Infrastructure Deficiencies
A senior traffic police officer confirmed that traffic volume on this stretch has increased substantially in recent months. The road has become a key alternative route for vehicles diverted from Indore Road via the Khajuri area, particularly for those heading toward Hoshangabad Road through Neelbad.
Motorists now commonly use the Kerwa Dam Road–Sakshi Dhaba junction and pass through the Bull Mother trisection, Kaliasot Road, and Chunabhatti to reach Hoshangabad Road, significantly adding to the vehicular load on this already problematic intersection.
The presence of multiple restaurants and dhabas along the stretch further exacerbates congestion problems. During weekends, vehicles can frequently be seen parked on both lanes of the road, creating additional traffic bottlenecks and safety hazards.
Multiple Safety Issues Identified
Traffic police officials and regular commuters agree that the combination of a blind turn, absence of a median, and surging traffic makes the trisection particularly vulnerable to accidents. They emphasize that immediate corrective measures are essential, including:
- Installation of proper dividers and medians
- Implementation of clear signage and improved road markings
- Enhanced visibility through vegetation clearance
- Better lighting for nighttime safety
- Speed-governing measures to control vehicle velocity
Traffic police officials have acknowledged these safety concerns and stated they will formally address the matter with the responsible road construction agency. A formal letter requesting remedial measures to improve safety at the location will be submitted for appropriate action.
Commuters Voice Their Concerns
Shilpi Singh, a school teacher residing in the Neelbad area who uses Kerwa Dam Road for her daily commute, confirmed that the Bull Mother Farm trisection has become a major accident-prone zone. She noted that numerous school buses pass through this spot during morning hours, and the left turn remains almost completely blind.
"Trees and bushes on the corner of the left turn need to be cleared to improve visibility of vehicles approaching from Kaliasot Road," Singh emphasized, highlighting a simple yet crucial improvement that could prevent accidents.
Ashok Sinha, a resident of Sharda Vihar Colony, reported that traffic on Kerwa Dam Road has increased dramatically. He identified additional hazards including stray cattle and dogs that frequently occupy the road near the Bull Mother Farm trisection, creating dangerous obstacles for drivers.
Sinha also pointed out that the area remains poorly lit at night, further increasing the risk of road accidents, while noting that people frequently indulge in over-speeding on this stretch due to the absence of effective speed-governing measures.
Official Recognition and Technical Assessment
Ratibad SHO RB Sharma confirmed that Ratibad police have already apprised senior officials about the safety concerns at the Bull Mother Farm trisection. The junction is now officially identified as an accident-prone spot, along with the Sakshi Dhaba junction, under the jurisdiction of Ratibad police station.
Additional DCP (Traffic) Basant Kaul provided technical insight, acknowledging that from a road engineering perspective, the trisection presents complex and hazardous conditions. He specifically pointed out that the left turn at the junction is blind and requires corrective measures.
Kaul further explained that vehicles negotiating the turn at a 45-degree angle face a high risk of skidding, particularly two-wheelers, due to the curvature and gradient of the road. He recommended that the concerned road construction agency conduct a detailed technical assessment of the site and implement appropriate remedial measures based on their findings.
The growing recognition of the Bull Mother Farm trisection as an accident-prone zone underscores the urgent need for comprehensive safety improvements to protect Bhopal's commuters from preventable tragedies.
