Chandigarh: One of the six persons injured in a series of LPG cylinder blasts in Burail succumbed to his injuries late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Munna, had sustained severe burn injuries in the explosions. Another victim remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Legal Action Initiated
Following the death, police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the owner of the shop where the cylinders were allegedly stored. According to sources, the accused operated a grocery store and had stocked LPG cylinders illegally for sale. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway, and the concerned department has been informed about the incident.
Questions Over Local Enforcement
The incident has raised serious questions about local enforcement, as Burail village has a dedicated police chowki. The explosions occurred on Monday, triggering panic in the area after multiple blasts rocked a house. At least three cylinders are believed to have exploded in quick succession, causing extensive damage to the building and nearby structures.
Eyewitnesses reported that the first blast triggered chaos in the neighbourhood, followed by two more explosions within minutes. The impact was so strong that nearby houses shook, forcing residents to rush out onto the streets in fear. The blast site has been secured, and forensic teams are collecting evidence to determine the exact cause of the explosions.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any illegal storage of LPG cylinders. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against those found violating safety regulations.
