Kanpur: In a daring heist, burglars made off with valuables worth approximately Rs 50 lakh from a residence in Kanpur's Sachendi locality late Saturday night. According to police, the perpetrators gained entry by scaling the rear wall and accessing the roof before latching the rooms from the outside, effectively trapping the family members inside throughout the night.
Details of the Incident
The crime came to light on Sunday morning when the family awoke to find the latches on their room doors bolted from the outside. Upon breaking free, they discovered that the burglars had stolen a significant amount of cash and jewellery. The stolen items include around Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, 22 tolas of gold, and 1.5 kilograms of silver.
According to the complaint filed by the family, the intruders first broke the lock of an upper room, where they collected the jewellery and cash kept there. They then proceeded downstairs, where they forced open an almirah and a locker, making off with the valuables stored inside. The thieves also ransacked other rooms in the house, taking additional items before fleeing the scene.
