Vigilance Bureau Arrests Buxar Block Officer for Accepting Rs 10,000 Bribe

In a significant crackdown on corruption, vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Ekta Bhaikendra Lucky, the block welfare officer-cum-block education officer of Brahmapur block in Buxar district. The arrest was made for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat graft in public offices.

Details of the Trap Operation

Director General (Vigilance) J S Gangwar confirmed that a headquarters team from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau caught the officer red-handed at his office in Brahmapur. The operation was meticulously planned after verifying a complaint filed by Sudhir Kumar Pathak, a teacher posted at Middle School, Gaighat, under Brahmapur block.

According to the complaint, the officer had allegedly demanded illegal gratification for releasing Pathak's pending arrears, which amounted to Rs 4 lakh. Following a thorough verification process, the allegations were found to be prima facie true, prompting the bureau to constitute a raiding team.

Execution and Arrest

The trap operation was led by DSP Rita Sinha, who supervised the arrest of the accused at the spot. This swift action underscores the vigilance department's commitment to rooting out corruption at the grassroots level. The arrested officer is currently being interrogated and will be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna for further legal proceedings.

Broader Context of Corruption Cases

Providing broader details, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau revealed that it has registered 11 FIRs related to corruption in January 2026 so far. Of these, 10 cases involved trap operations, resulting in the arrest of seven accused persons and the recovery of Rs 85,000 as bribe money.

This marks a notable increase compared to previous years. In January 2025, only four FIRs were registered, while no cases were reported in January 2024. In January 2023, six cases were registered, with five related to trap operations, indicating a fluctuating but persistent trend in corruption incidents.

The arrest of Ekta Bhaikendra Lucky serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance authorities' ongoing efforts to maintain integrity in public service. As investigations continue, this case adds to the growing number of anti-corruption measures being implemented across the region.
