A local court in Buxar has convicted and sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment in a murder case that occurred in January 2024. The court of District Additional Sessions Judge-8, Sunil Kumar Singh, also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict, with additional punishment in case of non-payment.
Details of the Incident
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on January 11, 2024. The victim, Ravi Ranjan Pathak, a resident of Gaighat under Brahmpur police station area, had visited the house of the accused, Manu Kanu, a resident of Noniyapur village under Krishna Brahm police station area, to demand pending dues. After that, Ravi Ranjan went missing.
Investigation and Recovery
The victim's elder brother, Bhrigunath Pathak, lodged a missing complaint at Brahmpur police station. During the investigation, police recovered Ravi Ranjan's motorcycle near the accused's house on January 13. Following interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. Police later recovered the victim's body from a pulse field near the accused's residence. A murder case was subsequently registered.
Court Proceedings
During the trial, the court relied on police evidence, witness statements, and prosecution arguments before finding Manu Kanu guilty. The court awarded him rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 60,000. Additional public prosecutor Dadan Kumar Singh represented the state.
