Cachar District Commissioner's Driver Killed in Tragic Silchar Road Accident
In a devastating incident in Silchar, Hari Singha, the official driver for the Cachar district commissioner, was killed in a road accident on Tuesday night. The 55-year-old resident of Larmagram in Ramnagar near Silchar died on the spot after his scooter was allegedly struck from behind by a speeding SUV in the Ramnagar area.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Police sources have revealed that the SUV involved in the accident belonged to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and displayed a signboard reading "On Duty Food Corporation of India, DO, Silchar." Shockingly, the vehicle reportedly did not have a registered number plate at the time of the crash. Officials stated that the force of the collision threw Singha onto the road, causing instantaneous death.
Authorities responded promptly, with police reaching the spot soon after the crash. They recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. The SUV has been seized, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
Growing Concerns Over Government Vehicle Violations
This tragic accident has reignited public concern over allegations that vehicles linked to government departments are frequently flouting traffic rules. Issues such as the use of red name plates and the absence of proper registration details have come under scrutiny. A similar fatal accident occurred in October last year, when a speeding car allegedly connected to the CPWD ran over and killed Sushil Das in Meherpur, Silchar.
The recurrence of such incidents has intensified demands for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations. Many residents describe a growing "VIP culture" that prioritizes convenience over compliance, leading to dangerous situations on the roads. Community leaders and activists are calling for immediate action to hold accountable those responsible and to prevent future tragedies.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are urged to address these systemic issues to ensure safer roads for all citizens in Silchar and beyond.
