Car Impounded in Gurgaon for Rs 1.17 Lakh Unpaid Challans

Gurgaon: When traffic inspector Mahavir and his team signaled a Volkswagen Polo to stop near Signature Towers on Thursday, they anticipated a routine check for illegal black films. Instead, they uncovered a significant case of accumulated traffic violations.

Unpaid Challans Amount to Rs 1.17 Lakh

Upon inspection, the vehicle had 13 pending challans totaling Rs 1.17 lakh. Notably, 11 of these challans were for the very black film violation they were investigating. Additionally, police discovered that the front number plate had been tampered with, leading to immediate impoundment of the car.

Vehicle Owner and Penalties

The 2022-registered car is owned by Nitin Verma, a resident of Hisar, who was driving at the time. According to police regulations, each black film offense carries a fine of Rs 10,000, making the total penalty for this violation alone Rs 1.10 lakh.

Further Action Taken

A senior officer confirmed that a fresh challan was issued for the use of black film and the tampered number plate. The driver's license was also seized. Inspector Mahavir stated, “The vehicle was impounded and sent to the Rajiv Chowk impound yard. It will be released only after payment of all pending fines. The driver has no criminal background, and he has been instructed to follow traffic rules in future.”

Ongoing Enforcement Drives

Police have announced that special drives targeting violations such as illegal black films, tampered number plates, and repeated traffic offenses will continue across Gurgaon. Traffic police spokesperson Vikas Verma urged motorists to regularly check and clear pending challans to avoid vehicle impoundment.

This incident serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and to settle any outstanding fines promptly.
