Nagpur: In a brazen theft, a four-wheeler seized by police was stolen from the Jaripatka police station premises. The car, which had been impounded following a clash, was parked on a road in front of the police station. This marks the second such incident in the city, where a seized vehicle was stolen from police custody. A week earlier, a seized truck was stolen from the Pardi police station by the driver, who has since been arrested, though the truck remains untraceable.
Incident Details
The vehicle was impounded on May 3 after a clash involving its owners from Arya Nagar. It was parked at the station after the owners approached the court for its release. However, during a routine check on June 3, police discovered that the car was missing. CCTV footage revealed that a masked couple entered the station premises and drove away the vehicle without any resistance in broad daylight on May 23.
Swift Action by Police
Acting swiftly, Jaripatka police nabbed Saurav Gajbhiye and his woman friend from Arya Nagar and brought the car back to the police station. The couple has been charged with stealing the vehicle from police custody. Following interrogation, they were released on notices, while the stolen car was traced and impounded again.
This incident raises serious concerns about security at police stations and the handling of seized vehicles.
