Caretaker Nabbed for Allegedly Drugging Delhi Family with Sleeping Pills and Stealing Cash

In a shocking incident from outer Delhi's Paschim Vihar East, a caretaker has been arrested on charges of sedating the family she worked for using sleeping pills and making off with a substantial amount of cash. The family, which included a 59-year-old ill woman, reported the crime to police on February 26, stating that the caretaker had fled with an estimated Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000.

Details of the Alleged Crime and Police Investigation

According to authorities, this was the caretaker's first day on the job. She served lunch to the family, after which nearly all members fell unconscious. Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Sachin Sharma revealed that the woman was traced to Bareilly and apprehended on February 27. During interrogation, she confessed to the police that she had previously worked for a woman in Noida who regularly consumed sleeping pills.

The caretaker admitted to stealing six pills from her former employer and mixing them into the food prepared for the Paschim Vihar family. However, the plot did not go entirely as planned. A child in the household refused to eat the tainted meal, and an elderly woman reportedly could not fall asleep despite consuming the food.

How the Scheme Unraveled and Led to Arrest

The elderly woman, who remained awake, witnessed the caretaker opening an almirah in the house. This suspicious activity prompted the caretaker to flee the scene immediately, fearing detection. The family later discovered the missing cash and contacted the police via a PCR call, initiating the investigation that led to her arrest in Bareilly.

This case highlights concerns about trust and safety in domestic employment settings, particularly when caregivers are involved with vulnerable individuals such as the ill elderly. Police are continuing their probe to determine if the caretaker has been involved in similar incidents elsewhere, emphasizing the importance of thorough background checks for household staff.
