CBI Nabs Three Bank Officials in Bijnor Bribery Sting Operation
In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three officials from the Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank's Sahaspur branch in Bijnor district. The officials were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 45,000 from a loan applicant, as confirmed by agency officials on Monday.
Sting Operation Details and Arrests
The CBI's anti-corruption wing, led by Inspector Parvendra Tomar, meticulously planned and executed a trap in Sahaspur on Saturday evening. The operation resulted in the arrest of branch manager Kapil Kumar, field officer Vikas Kumar, and contractual worker Mohammad Nauman. Following the arrests, the CBI team transported the accused to Ghaziabad late that night. The case was formally registered, and the arrests were publicly disclosed on Sunday.
Background of the Bribery Incident
Officials revealed that the bribery stemmed from a loan application under the Chief Minister Yuva Udyami Vikas Yojana. The wife of Chanchal Diwakar from Jairampur village had applied for a Rs 5 lakh loan to establish an RO plant. According to the CBI, the field officer initially demanded Rs 40,000 to process the loan, later escalating the amount to Rs 45,000.
Dramatic Arrest Scenes and Aftermath
The arrests unfolded dramatically, with Nauman being apprehended at a petrol pump while allegedly collecting the bribe from the applicant's husband. In a tense chase, the branch manager and field officer attempted to flee but were pursued for nearly 2 kilometers before being captured. This incident highlights the CBI's ongoing efforts to combat corruption in financial institutions, particularly in rural banking sectors.
