CBI Arrests Former Judge Giribala Singh in Dowry Death Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former judge Giribala Singh on Thursday in connection with the probe into the death of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, and allegations of dowry harassment. The arrest followed over seven hours of questioning at her residence in Bhopal, officials said.

Arrest Details

A CBI team interrogated Singh at her home in Bhopal's Bag Mughaliya Extension area before taking her into custody. The agency will produce her before a court on Friday. Her arrest came a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed her anticipatory bail.

Supreme Court's Directive

The Supreme Court has directed both the victim's family and the accused's family to refrain from giving media interviews during the investigation to ensure a fair and impartial probe.

Charges Filed

Giribala Singh has been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Section 80(2) (dowry death), Section 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), and Section 3(5) (acts in furtherance of common intention). She has also been charged under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

The case pertains to the death of Twisha Sharma, which is being investigated by the CBI.
