CBI Successfully Repatriates Fugitive from UAE to Andhra Pradesh Through INTERPOL
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has achieved a significant milestone in international law enforcement by successfully repatriating a fugitive wanted in Andhra Pradesh from the United Arab Emirates. This operation was conducted through established INTERPOL channels, showcasing the effectiveness of global police cooperation.
Details of the Fugitive and Charges
Anil Kumar Reddy Yeddula, the individual in question, faces serious allegations including cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation. These charges stem from his alleged involvement in criminal activities that prompted the Andhra Pradesh police to seek his arrest and extradition.
Operation and Coordination Efforts
On February 26, the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI, in close collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the National Central Bureau in Abu Dhabi (NCB-Abu Dhabi), executed a meticulously planned operation to bring Reddy back to India. He was escorted by a team of Dubai police officers and arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Upon landing, he was formally handed over to the custody of the Andhra Pradesh police, ensuring a seamless transfer of jurisdiction.
Role of INTERPOL and Red Notice
The CBI had issued a Red Notice through INTERPOL on September 5, 2022, at the specific request of the Andhra Pradesh police. This Red Notice, a critical tool in international law enforcement, was circulated to police agencies worldwide to track and locate wanted criminals. Following his arrest by UAE authorities, a decision was made to extradite him to India, underscoring the commitment of both nations to combating cross-border crime.
CBI's Function as India's INTERPOL Liaison
As the national central bureau for INTERPOL in India, the CBI plays a pivotal role in coordinating with various law enforcement agencies across the country through the BHARATPOL network. This coordination is essential for facilitating assistance via INTERPOL channels, enabling efficient responses to international criminal activities.
Recent Successes in Fugitive Repatriation
Over the past few years, the CBI's efforts have led to the repatriation of more than 130 wanted criminals to India through coordination with INTERPOL channels. This achievement highlights the agency's growing expertise and success in managing complex international operations, contributing to enhanced security and justice within the country.
