CBI case against Northern Railway staff for bribe demand

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) unit in Chandigarh has registered a case against two employees of Northern Railway's Ferozepur division and an unidentified official for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 60,000 to provide relief in disciplinary proceedings.

Complaint Details

Complainant Pawan Kumar, a senior clerk at the DRM office in Ferozepur, alleged that technician-I Vijay Kumar and senior section engineer Dharmveer sought the money on behalf of the divisional personnel officer (DPO) for a favorable outcome in three charge sheets issued against him.

Verification Process

The CBI verified the complaint on May 13, 2026. A recorded conversation prima facie indicated a demand of Rs 60,000 in exchange for relief in the disciplinary cases, the agency said. During verification, it also emerged that when the complainant did not pay, a departmental penalty was imposed. The accused allegedly repeated the demand later, claiming the penalty could be influenced at the appellate stage and warning of adverse consequences if the bribe was not paid.
