In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a postal official in Jharkhand for allegedly accepting a bribe. The accused, identified as a mail overseer, was caught red-handed by the premier investigating agency.
Details of the Bribery Case
The accused has been named as Prabhu Munda, who was posted at the Ramgarh post office in Jharkhand. According to the CBI, the case was officially registered on Wednesday based on a formal complaint. The complaint alleged that Munda had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from an individual. This illicit payment was requested in exchange for facilitating the complainant's appointment as a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) at the post office.
The CBI Trap and Arrest
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the CBI laid a meticulous trap to catch the accused in the act. The plan was executed successfully, leading to the on-the-spot arrest of Prabhu Munda. Officials caught him red-handed while he was accepting Rs 15,000 as the first installment of the total bribe amount he had demanded from the complainant.
Implications and Ongoing Probe
This arrest highlights the continued vigilance of central agencies against corruption in government offices, even at the grassroots level. The case underscores the challenges faced by citizens seeking public sector employment. The CBI is now conducting further investigations into the matter to uncover any potential broader network or previous instances of similar misconduct. Such actions reinforce the government's stated commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
