CBN Conducts Major Narcotics Crackdown Across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Madhya Pradesh unit, has successfully executed a series of coordinated operations, resulting in the seizure of over 3.5 kilograms of illegal opium and the arrest of three accused individuals. These actions were carried out between March 18 and March 20, 2024, targeting various locations across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, underscoring a robust inter-state effort to combat narcotics smuggling.
Detailed Operations Lead to Multiple Seizures
The crackdown involved multiple joint teams from CBN divisions, demonstrating strategic planning and intelligence-driven enforcement. On March 18, a joint team comprising members from the Neemuch second division and the Preventive and Intelligence Cell in Singoli intercepted a man traveling on a private bus along the Rawatbhata–Kota road near Borabas village in Rajasthan's Kota district. A thorough search led to the recovery of 1.048 kg of opium, after which the individual was promptly taken into custody.
Simultaneously, on the same day, another joint team from the Neemuch first and second divisions stopped a car near Morwan village on the Neemuch–Singoli road in Madhya Pradesh. During a detailed inspection, officers discovered 1.09 kg of opium concealed in a plastic packet hidden beneath the rear seat. The accused was arrested, and the vehicle was seized as part of the evidence.
Nighttime Operation Nets Additional Contraband
In a further operation conducted on the intervening night of March 19 and 20, a team from the Neemuch first division acted on specific intelligence input. They intercepted a motorcycle near Bhavta village on the Bhavta–Kuchrod road in Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh. A search of the side bag revealed two plastic packets containing 1.430 kg of opium. The rider was arrested, and both the contraband and the motorcycle were seized, highlighting the effectiveness of night-time vigilance.
Total Seizure and Legal Actions
Officials confirmed that the total seizure of opium across these three cases amounts to 3.571 kg. All three accused have been formally booked under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which prescribes severe penalties for such offenses. This crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug supply chains and curb the menace of narcotics in the region.
The operations reflect a proactive approach by the CBN, leveraging joint efforts and intelligence to tackle cross-border drug trafficking. Authorities have emphasized that such coordinated actions will continue to be a priority to ensure public safety and uphold the law against illicit drug activities.
