The Chakia police in Chandauli district successfully cracked a murder case within 36 hours, arresting the accused Sunil Yadav alias Kavi for allegedly killing Brijesh Yadav alias Bechai (34). The motive behind the murder was revenge for an illicit relationship and public humiliation. Chandauli Superintendent of Police (SP) announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 to boost the morale of the police team involved in the investigation.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the accused killed Yadav while he was sleeping on a cot outside his house at Jogiya Kala village. The attack occurred on Sunday midnight, with the assailant striking his neck with a sharp weapon. Upon receiving information, the police team promptly reached the spot. Based on the complainant's written statement and evidence, a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigation and Motive
The police began an investigation from all angles, including a possible land dispute. During the probe, it came to light that Brijesh's wife had an extra-marital affair with Sunil Yadav for the past four to five years, leading to marital discord between the couple. After a fight that occurred a week before the murder, the woman went to her maternal home along with her children. Distressed over this, Brijesh started exposing the deeds of the accused. Fearing social humiliation, Sunil, who was preparing for the upcoming Pradhan elections, planned to kill Brijesh to take revenge.
Execution of the Crime
As per the plan, on June 5, Sunil went to Aharaura in the afternoon and bought an iron axe from a blacksmith's shop. On the same night, he retrieved the iron axe from his field where he was sleeping and reached the deceased's house. He found the victim sleeping outside on a cot and killed him by slitting his throat. After the murder, he buried the murder weapon in his field and slept there itself.
Arrest and Confession
Chandauli SP Akash Patel stated that Chakia police laid a cordon and arrested Sunil near Mokram Bandhi. During interrogation, he confessed to his crime. The police also seized the murder weapon from the field. The swift action by the police has been commended, and the cash reward is intended to encourage further diligent work.
