Chandigarh District Court Targeted by Bomb Threat Email Again

For the third time, the Chandigarh district court located in Sector 43 was the recipient of a bomb threat email on Friday. The alarming message prompted immediate action from authorities, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the city.

Police Response and Search Operation

Court superintendent Gurmeet Singh alerted the police about the threat at approximately 11:40 AM. Senior police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and established a security cordon around the entire court complex. They were joined by specialized teams, including the bomb disposal squad and a forensic unit, to conduct a thorough investigation.

The search operation was carried out under the supervision of key officials, such as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (South-West), the Station House Officer of Sector-36 police, Jai Prakash, and the in-charge of Police Post-43. This coordinated effort ensured a meticulous examination of the premises.

Outcome and Ongoing Investigations

After several hours of intensive searching, the bomb disposal squad declared the court complex safe. Police confirmed that no explosives or suspicious items were discovered during the operation, and the situation remained peaceful throughout. However, authorities have launched an investigation to trace the source and sender of the threatening email.

In response to this incident, security measures at the district court have been significantly enhanced to prevent future threats. This marks the third instance of bomb threats received via email at this court, raising alarms about the persistence of such security breaches.

Broader Context of Email Threats in Chandigarh

This event is part of a larger pattern of email-based bomb threats in Chandigarh. Last month, a total of 30 schools in the city received similar threats, with investigations revealing that the emails originated from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Bangladesh.

Additionally, major government buildings in Chandigarh, such as the civil secretariat in Sector-1, the Mini Secretariat in Sector 9, and the Punjab Municipal Building, have also been targeted with bomb threats via email. Investigations into these cases are currently ongoing, underscoring the need for robust cybersecurity and physical security protocols.

The repeated nature of these threats highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in safeguarding public institutions against anonymous digital threats, while maintaining public safety and order.
