Police in Chandigarh have registered a dowry death case against a man and his parents after his 26-year-old wife allegedly died by suicide. The victim was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws' residence on May 19.
Incident Details
According to the police, the woman had served lunch to her family around 11 am before going upstairs. Later, a plumber visiting the house found the bedroom door locked from inside. The family then accessed the room through a neighbor's property and discovered the body. The police were informed and the body was sent to GMSH-16 for autopsy.
Father's Complaint
The deceased woman's father filed a complaint naming her husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law. He alleged that they had been harassing his daughter for additional dowry and subjecting her to physical torture since her marriage five years ago. The father claimed this drove her to suicide.
In-Laws' Defense
Initially, the in-laws stated that the woman took her own life due to a long-standing heart condition. The police are investigating both the family's claims and the allegations of physical torture mentioned in the father's complaint.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is underway.
