Chandigarh Police have successfully apprehended two individuals following a brazen knifepoint robbery in the Ramdarbar area. The accused allegedly stole a mobile phone, cash, and important documents from a man after threatening him with a knife.
Details of the Robbery Incident
According to the police complaint, the victim, Amresh Kumar from Hallomajra, was on his way to the Phase 2 Industrial Area when he was intercepted. The two accused confronted him, with one brandishing a knife while the other held him. They then proceeded to snatch his mobile phone, Rs 50 in cash, and his Aadhar card.
The complainant stated that during the crime, the assailants referred to each other as Gulli and Kartik. They further threatened to kill him if he dared to report the incident to the police, adding an element of intimidation to the theft.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Acting on the complaint, UT Police launched an investigation and swiftly tracked down the suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rohit, alias Gulli, and Kartik, alias Pagal, both residents of Ramdarbar itself.
During the arrest, police made crucial recoveries. One knife was recovered from Rohit. From Kartik, police recovered another knife and the snatched Aadhar card. The stolen mobile phone was also successfully retrieved.
Criminal History and Judicial Proceedings
Investigations revealed a troubling criminal past, particularly for one of the accused. Police confirmed that Rohit is a known history-sheeter with a significant record. He has previously been booked in eight separate cases under charges including the Arms Act, assault, robbery, and theft. His accomplice, Kartik, has been booked in one prior case.
Following their arrest, both accused were produced before a local court. The court has remanded them to judicial custody as the legal process moves forward. This arrest highlights police efforts to tackle street crime in the city.
