Chandigarh Police Crack Key Link in Property Dealer Murder Case, Arrest Three
The crime branch of the Chandigarh police has made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of property dealer Chamanpreet Singh, also known as Chini, in Sector 9. Authorities have arrested three accused individuals who allegedly provided crucial logistical support to the shooters involved in the crime.
Details of the Arrests and Recoveries
Police have identified the arrested individuals as Janu Malik, a resident of Jujhar Nagar in Mohali; Kamalpreet, from Burail in Sector 45, Chandigarh; and Rahul Sharma, who lives in Maloya, Chandigarh. During the operation, law enforcement recovered a pistol from the possession of the accused, adding to the evidence in the case.
All three suspects were produced in court and have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The arrests were conducted by the Crime Branch under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Lakshya Pandey, who emphasized that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire criminal network and identify other accomplices.
Role of the Accused in the Murder
Investigators revealed that the three accused played an active supporting role by assisting the shooters both before and after the murder. Their involvement included providing logistical and financial assistance, which was critical to the execution of the crime.
- One of the accused arranged the motorcycles used during the murder, facilitating the shooters' mobility.
- Another helped arrange funds and other forms of support, ensuring the shooters had the necessary resources.
- The three were in constant communication with the shooters, tracking their location, movements, and travel details to coordinate the crime effectively.
Investigation and Possible Gangster Link
As part of the probe, the Crime Branch has seized mobile phones from the accused and sent them for forensic examination. Authorities are analyzing call detail records, location data, and communication patterns to establish the sequence of events and connections between the accused and the shooters.
Police are also examining a possible link to gangster Lucky Patial, who is believed to be operating from abroad. Patial had claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post, and authorities are verifying whether any of the arrested accused had direct communication with him.
Previous Arrests and Encounter
Earlier in the case, two main accused—Rajan alias Piyush Pehalwan and Pritam—were arrested by the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force following an encounter in Kaithal, Haryana. During that operation, the accused opened fire, leading to retaliatory action by the police, in which both were injured. The motorcycle and weapons used in the murder were recovered at that time, marking a prior step in the investigation.
This latest development underscores the Chandigarh police's commitment to unraveling the full extent of the criminal network involved in the murder, with ongoing efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
