In a disturbing escalation of violence, Chandigarh witnessed its third shooting incident in less than seven days, with a 16-year-old juvenile arrested for firing at a friend in Sector 38A on Sunday evening. According to police reports, a PCR call was received at 4:51 PM on Sunday, alerting authorities to a firing incident at House No. 79 in Sector 38A. The victim, also a juvenile, was visiting his uncle when the accused fired a round at him on the road. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur stated that swift action based on CCTV footage and manual intelligence led to the arrest of the accused within two hours. A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession.
The SSP further explained that the firing stemmed from a past altercation between the two juveniles. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this particular incident, but it has added to the growing unease among residents.

This latest event follows two other alarming shootings that have occurred since March 18. The most severe was the broad-daylight murder of property dealer Chamanpreet Singh alias Chini outside Bodyzone Gym in the high-security Sector 9 on March 18. Two unidentified gunmen arrived on a scooter and fired approximately 11 rounds into the victim, who was inside his SUV. Reports indicate that Chini had been receiving extortion calls prior to his killing, highlighting potential organized crime elements.
Additionally, a separate shooting was reported around the same period at Panjab University, though details remain sparse. Together, these incidents paint a troubling picture of rising gun violence in the city.
