Chandrapur Traffic Department Intensifies Enforcement, Issues Over 1.86 Lakh E-Challans in 2025
In a significant push to enhance road safety, the traffic department in Chandrapur district has ramped up its enforcement efforts throughout the year 2025. The department issued a staggering 1,86,643 e-challans, imposing penalties totaling Rs14.57 crore. As of now, Rs1.38 crore of this amount has been successfully recovered, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
Most Common Traffic Offences Recorded in Chandrapur
The data reveals that failure to wear helmets was the most prevalent violation, with action taken in 41,925 cases. This underscores a critical area of concern for rider safety on the roads. Following closely, signal jumping accounted for 20,008 violations, indicating a disregard for traffic signals that can lead to accidents.
Additionally, 7,830 motorists were penalised for not wearing seat belts, a vital safety measure often overlooked. Overspeeding, another major risk factor, was recorded in 448 cases, though this number is relatively lower compared to other offences.
Vehicle-Wise Breakdown of Traffic Violations
Two-wheeler riders were responsible for the majority of violations, with 1,30,632 challans issued. This highlights the need for targeted awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement for this segment of road users. Three-wheelers were involved in 5,275 cases, while four-wheelers and other vehicles accounted for 50,736 violations.
Penalties and Legal Framework for Traffic Offences
Under current traffic rules, offences such as not wearing a helmet, jumping signals, overspeeding, and not using seat belts each attract a fine of ₹1,000. The implementation of the e-challan system has streamlined the process, making it more convenient for citizens to pay fines online. However, failure to settle fines within 90 days of receiving a notice can result in legal repercussions.
To bolster recovery efforts, the department is also pursuing unpaid fines through Lok Adalats, ensuring that penalties are not evaded. This multi-pronged approach aims to deter violations and promote a culture of road safety among all motorists in Chandrapur district.
