Chatra Police Crack Down on Banned Maoist Faction, Arrest Five Members
In a significant operation, police in Chatra district have apprehended five individuals linked to the outlawed Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the CPI (Maoist). The arrests were made on Wednesday from the Benti Maidan area, marking a crucial step in curbing extremist activities in the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Coordinated Police Action
Acting on credible intelligence about the assembly of members from the Sudarshanji gang to plan criminal activities, authorities swiftly formed a specialized team. This unit operated under the direct supervision of Tandwa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prabhat Ranjan Barwar, ensuring a well-coordinated and effective response to the threat.
Substantial Recoveries from the Accused
During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated a range of incriminating items from the suspects. The seized materials include:
- One country-made pistol
- Two live 7.62 mm cartridges
- Ten pamphlets belonging to the TSPC outfit
- A stolen motorcycle
- Six mobile phones
These recoveries underscore the gang's involvement in illicit activities and their potential to disrupt local peace and security.
Identities of the Arrested Individuals
The five accused have been identified as residents of Piparwar and nearby areas. They are:
- Surendra Kumar, alias Lambu, aged 20
- Ashok Kumar Ganju, aged 21
- Harish Mahto, aged 25
- Suraj Kumar Bhuiyan, aged 24
- Ronit Kumar Ganju, aged 19
Their young ages highlight concerns about the recruitment strategies employed by such banned factions.
Ongoing Investigations and Future Actions
Police authorities have indicated that the gang is suspected of involvement in a firing incident at the residence of Mahendra Ganju on March 11. Further investigation is currently underway to uncover additional details and connections. Raids are being conducted to apprehend other associates linked to the group, aiming to dismantle their network comprehensively.
This operation reflects the continued vigilance of law enforcement in tackling extremist elements and maintaining public safety in Chatra district.
