Chennai woman arrested for ₹42 lakh veterinary college admission scam
Chennai: ₹42 lakh admission scam, woman arrested

Chennai police have apprehended a 41-year-old woman in connection with a significant fraud case, where a man was allegedly cheated of a massive sum of money under the false promise of securing a veterinary college admission for his son.

The Promise of a Seat and a Hefty Price

The victim, identified as A. Anthony Amirtharaj, 51, a resident of Ashok Nagar, was introduced to the accused through a mutual friend. The group, consisting of Chinnathurai, Lakshmi Priya, Arun, and Manjunatha, confidently claimed they had the influence and means to arrange a coveted seat for his son in a veterinary college.

Believing their assurances, Amirtharaj proceeded to pay them a total of approximately ₹42 lakh. This substantial amount was transferred in three separate instalments as part of the arrangement for the promised educational placement.

The Broken Deal and Police Complaint

However, the accused failed to deliver on their promise. When no admission materialized, a concerned Amirtharaj demanded his money back. The accused only managed to repay ₹4.44 lakh, a fraction of the total amount taken.

Left with no other recourse, Amirtharaj approached the K K Nagar police and lodged a formal complaint, detailing the entire fraudulent transaction and the subsequent failure to refund his money.

Arrest Made, Hunt for Accomplices Continues

Following an investigation based on the complaint, the police have arrested one of the accused, Lakshmi Priya, aged 45. From her, authorities have successfully recovered ₹1 lakh of the cheated amount.

As of now, three other accused named in the case—Chinnathurai, Arun, and Manjunatha—remain absconding. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that active efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining individuals involved in this elaborate admission scam.

This case highlights the risks associated with unauthorized agents promising admissions and serves as a cautionary tale for parents seeking educational opportunities for their children.
