Chennai Gang Attacks Father and Son After Harassing College Student

In a shocking incident in Chennai, a gang of five men who had been stalking and harassing a college student brutally attacked her father and brother with machetes after the family confronted them. Police have since arrested all five suspects involved in the violent assault.

Confrontation Escalates into Violent Attack

The trouble began when the student, whose identity is protected as per Supreme Court directives in sexual assault cases, was repeatedly harassed by Kamesh and his associates while commuting to and from college. After she reported the harassment to her family, her brother Gopi, 23, confronted Kamesh, leading to a heated argument that turned physical.

On Thursday, the situation took a dangerous turn when Gopi returned from work and was parking his motorcycle. A group of armed men, identified as the same harassers, ambushed him with machetes. Hearing his son's cries for help, their father Thirumal Murugan, 52, rushed outside but was also attacked by the assailants.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The attackers fled the scene before local residents could intervene to assist the injured father and son. Both victims sustained serious injuries in the machete assault and were immediately admitted to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Based on a formal complaint filed by Thirumal Murugan, Chennai police registered a case and launched a thorough investigation. Law enforcement officials successfully traced and apprehended all five suspects involved in the attack. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kamesh, Prasanna, Devendran, Ajithkumar, and Inock.

All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody as the legal proceedings continue. The police investigation revealed that the attack was a direct retaliation for the family's confrontation regarding the harassment of the college student.

This case highlights the serious consequences of stalking and harassment, and the importance of prompt police action in addressing such violent crimes against families in urban areas.
