Chennai man held for filming neighbor in bathroom

A shocking case of invasion of privacy has led to the arrest of a 57-year-old businessman in Chennai. The man was taken into custody for allegedly filming his neighbor, a dentist, while she was bathing inside her house in the Ayanavaram area.

Confrontation on the Terrace Leads to Discovery

The incident came to light on Saturday when the woman spotted a mobile phone camera pointed at her bathroom window. She immediately alerted her mother. The duo then discovered their neighbor, identified as Nandakumar, positioned on his terrace with his smartphone trained on the bathroom.

A confrontation followed between the woman's family and Nandakumar. Distressed by the violation, the dentist decided to approach the police to file an official complaint regarding the voyeurism.

Police Action and Arrest After Initial Delay

Although the police initially detained Nandakumar and examined his phone, finding more than a dozen incriminating video clips, there was a delay in formally registering the First Information Report (FIR). Frustrated by the inaction, the woman escalated the matter on Monday by reaching out to Deputy Commissioner Jareena Begum of the Kilpauk jurisdiction.

Acting swiftly on the senior official's directives, the Ayanavaram police registered a formal case on Monday night. This procedural step paved the way for the arrest of Nandakumar on the following day, Tuesday.

Legal Proceedings and Aftermath

Following his arrest, the accused businessman was produced before a magistrate. The court subsequently ordered him to be sent to judicial custody. The case highlights the critical importance of prompt police action in crimes against women and the need for vigilance against such invasions of privacy within residential communities.

The dentist's courage in pursuing the complaint, even when faced with initial procedural delays, ensured that the alleged perpetrator faced legal consequences. The discovery of multiple videos on his device suggests this may not have been an isolated act, making the arrest all the more significant for community safety.
