Chennai Police Attacked During Ganja Raid in Pulianthope

Chennai: A police team conducting a ganja raid in the Pulianthope area came under attack from relatives of a history-sheeter who was found hoarding ganja at his residence. Law enforcement authorities have registered a separate case against the relatives for assaulting officers during the operation. A video of the incident went viral on social media on Monday.

Details of the Raid

Acting on a tip-off regarding the sale of ganja in Pulianthope, a team from the Basin Bridge police station, led by sub-inspector Krishnakumar, raided a house in Gandhi Nagar Fifth Street on Sunday. The property belonged to Nandakumar, 26, who is listed as a history-sheeter by the police. During the search, officers seized 29 packets of ganja weighing a total of 10 grams, along with six syringes, from the premises.

Obstruction and Assault

According to police, women present in the house initially objected to the search and attempted to prevent officers from carrying out the raid. After Nandakumar was arrested and police attempted to take him into custody, his mother and other female relatives physically assaulted the policemen. Officers had to use force to protect themselves and bring the situation under control. Nandakumar was subsequently taken to the Basin Bridge police station.
