Chennai Police Launch Investigation into Coordinated Bomb Hoax Email Campaign
Police authorities in Chennai have initiated a comprehensive investigation following a series of bomb hoax emails that targeted multiple high-profile locations across the city on Thursday. The alarming threats were sent to Queen Mary's College, the residence of popular actor S Ve Sekhar, and the prestigious Madras Club, creating significant security concerns and prompting immediate emergency responses.
College Campus Searched After Threatening Email
According to official police statements, the first threatening email was delivered to the official email address of Queen Mary's College located on Kamarajar Road. The message contained explicit threats of an impending explosion on the college premises. College administration officials, upon receiving the disturbing communication, immediately alerted local law enforcement authorities without delay.
Specialized bomb detection and disposal squad personnel were swiftly deployed to conduct a thorough search of the entire campus area. After an extensive examination of the college grounds and buildings, authorities confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosive materials were discovered, providing relief to students, staff, and nearby residents.
Additional Threats Target Actor's Home and Elite Social Club
The investigation revealed that similar threatening emails were simultaneously sent to two other prominent locations in Chennai. One email targeted the residential property of actor S Ve Sekhar in the Mandaveli neighborhood, while another was directed to the Madras Club situated on Boat Club Road in the RA Puram area.
Police teams conducted meticulous security sweeps at both locations, employing specialized equipment and trained personnel to ensure comprehensive safety checks. The searches at S Ve Sekhar's residence and the exclusive Madras Club premises yielded no evidence of explosives or dangerous materials, confirming these threats as hoaxes designed to create panic and disrupt normal activities.
Police Continue Investigation into Source of Threats
Chennai police have emphasized that while no actual explosives were discovered at any of the targeted sites, the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are working to trace the origin of the threatening emails and identify those responsible for the coordinated hoax campaign.
Security experts suggest that such incidents, while ultimately proving to be false alarms, require serious attention as they consume valuable emergency resources, create public anxiety, and potentially divert police attention from genuine security threats. The Chennai police have urged citizens to remain vigilant while assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure community safety and identify the perpetrators behind these disruptive actions.
