Chennai Triple Murder: Bihari Woman's Body Recovered from Perungudi Dumpyard After Intensive Search
In a tragic development in the Adyar triple murder case, the body of 21-year-old Minukumari, one of the victims, was finally recovered from the Perungudi dumpyard on Friday morning. The discovery came after an exhaustive three-day search operation involving approximately 100 police personnel and 50 sanitation workers who meticulously sifted through mounds of garbage.
Massive Search Operation Leads to Discovery
The badly decomposed body was located around 11 am and was immediately transported to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination. This recovery marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the brutal murders that have shocked the city.
Family of Three Brutally Murdered
Minukumari, along with her husband Gaurav Kumar (24) and their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar, were all victims of this horrific crime. The family, originally from Bihar, had arrived in Chennai on January 21 in search of better livelihood opportunities. They had been staying with fellow migrants from Bihar in the Taramani area.
Previous Discoveries and Investigation Timeline
The investigation began when Gaurav Kumar's body was found on January 26 in a bloody sack dumped near a two-wheeler showroom at Indira Nagar First Avenue. CCTV footage from the area captured two men on a two-wheeler disposing of the body before fleeing the scene. This crucial evidence led police to the Taramani locality and eventually to Satyendra (30), who was identified as Gaurav's friend.
During interrogation, police learned that Satyendra and several others had been drinking with Gaurav on the night of the incident. The confrontation escalated, resulting in the murders of Gaurav, his wife Minukumari, and their young child. The child's body was discovered a couple of days ago in the Buckingham Canal near the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) campus at Taramani.
Arrests Made and Ongoing Investigation
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murders: Satyendra, Lalit Yadav (40), and Vikas Kumar (24). All three have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are specifically investigating whether Minukumari was sexually assaulted before her death, with police stating they are awaiting the postmortem report for conclusive evidence.
Sequence of Events and Motive
According to police reconstruction, the family arrived in Taramani on January 24, and investigators suspect the murders occurred that same night. The primary motive appears to have been an attempt by the intoxicated men to molest Minukumari, which triggered the violent confrontation that led to the triple homicide.
Next Phase of Investigation
Police officials have indicated that the next phase of their investigation will focus on meticulously reconstructing the exact sequence of events leading to the murders and determining the specific roles played by each accused individual. The case has highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers in urban centers and has prompted increased scrutiny of security measures in residential areas.
