Chhattisgarh Gang-Rape: 16-Year-Old Girl Assaulted by Three Youths in Balod District

Acting swiftly on a formal complaint lodged by the survivor and her mother, the police have taken decisive action. Two of the accused have been arrested under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. A third accused, identified as a juvenile who is a friend of the survivor, has been detained for his involvement in the crime.
The sequence of events, as detailed by investigating officers, is particularly harrowing. The juvenile friend allegedly lured the girl, a Class 10 student, onto his motorcycle for what was presented as a casual outing. He took her to a remote dam site, where the other two accused were waiting. The trio then proceeded to sexually assault the minor. In a further act of cruelty, they recorded a video of the assault, which they intended to use to blackmail and silence the survivor.
Survivor's Ordeal and Family's Anguish
In her detailed statement to the police, the brave survivor recounted being threatened and held captive by the two main accused for over five terrifying hours. Her parents, growing increasingly anxious as the hours passed without her return, immediately approached the local police station. Law enforcement officials promptly initiated a search, scanning nearby CCTV footage for crucial leads to locate their missing daughter.
The girl managed to return home after the two primary accused chased away her juvenile friend. Upon her return, she courageously narrated the entire traumatic ordeal to her mother, which led to the immediate filing of a formal police complaint, setting the legal process in motion.
Juvenile's Confession and Disturbing Local Practice
During police interrogation, the detained juvenile friend admitted to taking the survivor out on his two-wheeler. However, he claimed ignorance regarding the identities and intentions of the other two accused. According to his statement, the two other youths appeared suddenly at the dam site from a nearby village.
Police officials have revealed a deeply troubling pattern associated with this case. They noted that it has become a common, predatory practice among some village boys to target young couples at isolated locations. These perpetrators then record compromising videos to blackmail the individuals, threatening to make the footage public to extract money or enforce silence.
