The horrific incident unfolded on May 29, 2020, at the Amdai Ghati Camp located in the Narayanpur district. Kumeti, who served as an Assistant Platoon Commander with the 9th Battalion of the CAF, unleashed a barrage of gunfire using his service AK-47 rifle. This violent outburst followed a heated dispute with his colleagues, resulting in a tragic loss of life and severe injuries.
The firing claimed the lives of PR Rameshwar Sahu and PC Bindeshwar Sahni, while Sub-Inspector Lakshram Premi sustained serious gunshot wounds but miraculously survived the attack. Prosecution witnesses recounted chilling details, stating that Kumeti was heard shouting after the shooting, declaring he was "treated like an animal" and had "did what he had to do."

During the thorough investigation, the injured witness provided crucial insights into the events leading up to the tragedy. It was revealed that a few days prior to the incident, a heated altercation erupted between the accused and the deceased, PR Rameshwar Sahu, during a card game at the camp.
