Chhattisgarh Government Suspends Senior IPS Officer Ratan Lal Dangi Following Viral Social Media Photos

The Chhattisgarh government has taken decisive action by suspending senior IPS officer Ratan Lal Dangi, an inspector general-rank official, after alleged objectionable photographs of him surfaced on social media recently. This move comes amid growing concerns over misconduct and its impact on public trust in law enforcement.

Official Order and Preliminary Probe Findings

An order issued by the state's home department on Thursday stated that a preliminary probe indicates the officer's conduct was in violation of established service rules. The order further elaborated that the material related to the officer, which went viral on social media, has led to an adverse public perception of the state police department. Based on these findings, action has been proposed against him under the provisions of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules and the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.

Departmental Inquiry and Restrictions Imposed

Officials confirmed that a departmental inquiry against Dangi is already underway. Following the suspension, he has been attached to the police headquarters in Nava Raipur. As part of the disciplinary measures, he will not be allowed to leave the station without prior permission from the competent authority, ensuring strict oversight during the investigation.

Background and Previous Complaints

The suspension action follows a complaint lodged by the wife of a sub-inspector on October 25, 2025, accusing Dangi of sexual harassment and misuse of authority. She alleged that she first came into contact with Dangi in 2017 when he was posted as Superintendent of Police in Korba. In response to these accusations, Dangi had earlier denied the claims, stating that false allegations were leveled against him after he complained to the Director General of Police about being blackmailed.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining discipline and integrity within police services, particularly in the age of social media where public perception can be swiftly influenced. The Chhattisgarh government's prompt response underscores its commitment to upholding service rules and addressing misconduct allegations transparently.
