A 6-year-old boy lost his life on Friday after his mother, aged 24, entered the Narmada main canal near Sherisa village in Kalol taluka, Gandhinagar district, following a domestic dispute. The woman and her younger son, aged 18 months, were rescued, but the older child was swept away by the strong current.
Incident Details
According to the complaint filed on Sunday with Santej police, the woman had an argument with family members earlier that day. After the dispute, she left her residence with her two sons. Her husband, who was at work, remained in phone contact with her for some time. During a conversation, she informed him she was leaving with the children. Concerned, he began searching for her while repeatedly calling her mobile, but the phone eventually became unreachable.
Later that evening, the husband received a call from an unidentified person who reported that a woman had left a mobile phone on the embankment of the Sherisa Narmada canal and had entered the water with two children.
Rescue and Recovery
Family members rushed to the spot, and local residents joined rescue efforts. The woman and her 18-month-old son were rescued from the water and taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. However, the 6-year-old boy was carried away by the canal's strong current. Search operations were launched, and his body was later found in the Narmada canal near Ramnagar.
Police sent the body for post-mortem examination. After the funeral rites, the father lodged a complaint at Santej police station.
Investigation
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated a probe. Officers are recording statements of family members and witnesses. They are examining the sequence of events and gathering evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
