Lucknow: A court in Siddharthnagar district has sentenced two Chinese nationals to two years and 15 days of simple imprisonment for entering India from Nepal without valid visas. The verdict was delivered by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Anubhav Katiyar, which also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on each of the convicts.
Arrest and Investigation
According to the prosecution, the two foreign nationals were arrested nearly two-and-a-half years ago from the Mohana police station area following a joint operation by the police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). During interrogation, the accused identified themselves as Zhou Pulin, 27, a resident of Sichuan Province, and Yuan Yuhan, 22, a resident of Chongqing, China.
How They Entered India
Police found that the duo traveled to Nepal as tourists before crossing into India through an isolated route along a riverbank without valid travel documents. During questioning, the accused admitted that they used Google Maps to navigate through the remote border area and enter India illegally.
Intended Destination
The two told investigators that their intended destination was Bengaluru, where they planned to meet the Dalai Lama. Following the arrest, police registered a case against them under Section 14(A) of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
