In a significant breakthrough, the Chittoor police have successfully solved a major house burglary case by apprehending two inter-state thieves and recovering stolen gold and silver jewellery valued at approximately Rs 38 lakh. The arrest was made by a special team led by Chittoor II town Circle Inspector D Nettikantaiah, who maintained technical surveillance on the suspects' movements.
Details of the Crime
The case was registered at the Chittoor I town police station following a complaint lodged by NP Gautam Kiran. According to the complaint, miscreants sneaked into his locked house recently and decamped with valuable jewellery and other items. The swift action by the police led to the arrest of Perumalla Krishna (54) and his son Krishna Santosh Kumar (26) near the Vivekananda statue close to Kattamanchi area.
Recovery of Stolen Items
Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, which led to the recovery of 186 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 28 lakh and 3.75 kilograms of silver articles valued at Rs 10 lakh. The total value of the recovered items stands at approximately Rs 38 lakh, providing significant relief to the victim.
Criminal Background of the Accused
Further background checks revealed that the duo are habitual offenders who specifically target locked homes. They have a criminal history of 17 cases registered against them in Karnataka and three cases in the Tirupati region. This modus operandi highlights their expertise in burglary and the need for heightened vigilance among residents.
The police have urged citizens to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. The successful resolution of this case underscores the effectiveness of technical surveillance and coordinated police efforts in combating crime in the region.
