In a significant operation, the Chittoor district police wing has successfully recovered 501 stolen or lost mobile phones with a total value of Rs 1.2 crore during the 14th phase of their special drive. The recovered devices were officially handed back to their rightful owners by Chittoor Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi at a ceremony held in Chittoor on Wednesday.
Massive Recovery Efforts Yield Impressive Results
Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi revealed that the police have now recovered more than 4,600 stolen or lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 14.5 crore across the first 14 phases of this ongoing initiative. This demonstrates a sustained and effective effort by law enforcement to combat mobile phone theft and loss in the region.
Public Urged to Use CEIR Portal for Assistance
SP Dudi made a strong appeal to the public, encouraging individuals who have lost or had their mobile phones stolen to promptly reach out to the police through the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal. This centralized system is designed to help track and recover mobile devices efficiently, providing a crucial tool for victims and authorities alike.
Warning Against Grey Market Purchases
The police also issued a stern caution to the public, advising against purchasing mobile phones from the grey market or unauthorized persons. Such transactions are deemed illegal and can lead to serious legal troubles for buyers, including potential involvement in handling stolen property. Authorities emphasized the importance of buying devices through legitimate channels to ensure safety and compliance with the law.
This recovery drive highlights the proactive measures taken by the Chittoor police to address mobile phone crimes and protect citizens' property, while also promoting awareness about legal avenues for assistance and the risks associated with illicit markets.
