The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector (SI) posted at the accounts section of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bokaro for his alleged involvement in illegal withdrawals from the Bokaro treasury.
According to a press statement released by the CID on Wednesday, the accused SI has been identified as Ashok Kumar Bhandari. The statement elaborated that Bhandari was linked to one of the previously arrested individuals, Kaushal Kumar Pandey. It further revealed that approximately Rs 50 lakh was allegedly transferred from Pandey's account to Bhandari's account. Additionally, over Rs 1.11 crore was withdrawn from Bhandari's bank account with Kaushal's assistance since 2020.
Earlier, on Sunday, the CID had arrested home guard Satish Kumar in connection with the same case. The arrests are part of a broader investigation into illegal withdrawals from the treasuries of Bokaro and Hazaribag.
Acting on directives from the state government, the CID has formed an eight-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe these illegal withdrawals. The SIT is tasked with uncovering the full extent of the fraud and identifying all individuals involved.
The case has raised serious concerns about financial irregularities within the treasury system. The CID has assured that further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
