In a significant legal development, a couple from Coimbatore has been handed a life imprisonment sentence for the murder of a man near Sulur in 2023. The verdict was pronounced on Friday by the additional district court V, marking the culmination of a trial that began after the brutal incident.

The convicts, identified as P Govindaraj, aged 44, and G Thamarai, aged 40, both residents of Arasur, were found guilty of murdering Rangasamy, also from Arasur. The crime stemmed from an altercation that escalated into a fatal assault.

According to court proceedings, on April 1, 2023, Rangasamy, who was intoxicated at the time, visited Govindaraj's house and allegedly misbehaved with his wife. After being informed of the incident, Govindaraj and Thamarai confronted Rangasamy at his residence, leading to a heated argument.

The situation quickly deteriorated, and during the altercation, Govindaraj struck Rangasamy on the head with a wooden log. The blow caused severe and fatal injuries, resulting in Rangasamy's death. Following the incident, the Sulur police promptly registered a murder case and arrested the couple.

The trial was conducted before the additional district court V, with Judge P K Shivakumar presiding over the case. After examining the evidence and testimonies, the court found the couple guilty of murder.
