Coimbatore: In a decisive move to enhance public safety and ensure strict legal compliance, Coimbatore city police commissioner N Kannan on Friday issued a series of mandatory directives to owners of FL2- and FL3-licensed bars. The commissioner chaired a consultative meeting with nearly 120 bar owners and operators, emphasizing the need for adherence to government regulations.
Age Verification and Identification
Commissioner Kannan explicitly directed bar owners not to serve liquor to anyone under the age of 21. Employees are required to verify patrons' age using valid Aadhaar cards or other official identification documents. This measure aims to prevent underage drinking and ensure compliance with the law.
Surveillance and Security Measures
To prevent brawls and maintain law and order, the commissioner mandated the installation and proper maintenance of surveillance cameras on the premises. Bar staff must remain vigilant, take preventive safety measures, and immediately alert the police in case of any mishaps or incidents.
Parking and Substance Control
Bar managements are required to systematically organize vehicle parking to avoid traffic congestion in surrounding areas. A strict vigil must be maintained against the entry and use of banned substances, including gutka and illegal drugs. Bars must operate strictly within government-stipulated hours, sell only permitted liquor, and maintain proper sales records.
Legal Consequences for Violations
The commissioner warned all owners, supervisors, and staff that they must strictly adhere to these guidelines. Any violation would invite severe legal action, underscoring the seriousness of the directives.
Deputy commissioners of police N Devanathan and G Karthikeyan also attended the meeting, which saw active participation from bar owners and operators. The meeting reflects the police department's commitment to ensuring public safety and order in Coimbatore.
