Tragic Bus Accident Claims Life of Polytechnic Student in Coimbatore
A devastating road accident on Wednesday morning in Coimbatore resulted in the death of an 18-year-old polytechnic student. The incident occurred on the busy Avinashi Road, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Victim Identified as Final-Year Student
The traffic investigation wing (East) police have identified the victim as P Govardhana Manibharathi, an 18-year-old resident of Melapalayam near Chennimalai in Erode district. Manibharathi was a final-year student at a private polytechnic college located in Peelamedu, where he resided in a rental accommodation while pursuing his education.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the tragic accident unfolded when Manibharathi was traveling to his college on a two-wheeler. A private bus heading towards Gandhipuram in the city suddenly struck the handlebar of his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and fall onto the road. In a horrific turn of events, the bus wheels crushed his head, resulting in immediate death at the scene.
A police officer involved in the investigation stated, "The impact caused him to lose balance, and he fell directly in the path of the moving bus. The severity of the injuries meant he died on the spot before any medical assistance could arrive."
Police Response and Legal Action
Upon receiving the alert, authorities from the Peelamedu traffic police and the traffic investigation wing swiftly responded to the accident site. The victim's body was transported to the government ESI Medical College and Hospital for a mandatory postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
In response to the incident, police have registered a formal case against the bus driver, identified as B Pushparaj, a 27-year-old from Meenakulam village in Virudhunagar district. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the precise circumstances that led to this fatal collision.
