Coimbatore Schools Targeted by Hoax Bomb Threat Emails
Two private educational institutions in Coimbatore were thrust into a state of high alert on Thursday morning after receiving alarming bomb threat emails. The messages triggered an immediate and comprehensive response from law enforcement agencies, including the deployment of specialized bomb detection and disposal squads.
Details of the Threatening Communications
According to police sources, the emails were sent to Chinmaya Vidyalaya, a private CBSE school located at Vadavalli on Thondamuthur Road, and Chandrakanthi Public School situated in the Peelamedu area. The communications contained explicit warnings, stating that explosives, including RDX, along with cyanide gas, had been planted on the school premises. The emails further cautioned that these devices could be detonated at any moment, urging immediate evacuation of all personnel.
Swift Police Action and School Response
The management of both schools acted promptly upon receiving the threats, immediately notifying the Coimbatore City Police. In response, authorities mobilized the bomb detection and disposal squad, as well as K9 dog units, to conduct exhaustive searches of the facilities.
The operation involved:
- Thorough combing of every classroom and office space
- Detailed inspection of school grounds and outdoor areas
- Systematic checks of all nooks and corners within the premises
Conclusion of the Investigation
After approximately one hour of intensive searching, the bomb squad completed their examination of both school campuses. No suspicious items or materials were found at either location. Consequently, authorities officially declared the bomb threat emails to be hoaxes, designed to create panic and disrupt normal activities.
This incident highlights the importance of rapid response protocols and inter-agency coordination in addressing potential security threats to educational institutions. While the threats proved to be false alarms, the seriousness with which they were treated underscores the commitment to student and staff safety in Coimbatore's schools.
