College Student Dies in Hit-and-Run on Pune Bypass

A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when a 21-year-old college student lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass in Pune. The victim, identified as Mahesh Gajanan Mankar, a resident of Akola, was pursuing his higher education at a city college.

Details of the Accident

According to Senior Inspector Asaram Shete of Narhe police, the accident took place around 1:15 am near the Wadgaon Bridge. Mankar was riding his motorcycle from Katraj towards Warje when an unidentified four-wheeler struck his motorcycle from behind, causing him to fall onto the road.

The first vehicle fled the scene after the collision. Moments later, another four-wheeler, which was traveling behind Mankar's motorcycle, ran over him and also sped away without stopping to offer assistance.

Police Investigation Underway

Senior Inspector Shete stated that the accident spot lacked CCTV surveillance, making the investigation challenging. However, the police are collecting footage from other CCTV cameras installed along the bypass to identify the vehicles involved. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.

This hit-and-run case has raised concerns about road safety and the need for better surveillance on the bypass. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
