Colvale Police File FIR Over Illegal Sand Extraction in Camurlim, Bardez
Colvale police have taken decisive action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified individuals for the illegal extraction and storage of sand in the Camurlim area of Bardez, Goa. This enforcement move came after a thorough site inspection conducted on Wednesday morning.
Authorities Conduct Raid and Seize Illegally Extracted Sand
The inspection was led by geologist Omkar R Naik Gaonkar from the directorate of mines and geology, who was accompanied by local police personnel. During the subsequent raid at properties identified under survey numbers 130/0 and 131/0, authorities discovered and seized a significant quantity of illegally extracted sand.
A total of 40 cubic metres of sand, valued at approximately Rs 52,000, was confiscated. The sand was found stacked on the premises without any valid permits or authorization, highlighting a clear violation of mining regulations.
Legal Charges Filed Under Multiple Sections
The police have registered an offence under section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, which pertains to illegal mining activities. Additionally, charges have been filed under sections 3 and 38 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1985, further emphasizing the seriousness of the violations.
These legal provisions are designed to regulate mineral extraction and prevent unauthorized activities that can lead to environmental degradation and revenue loss for the state.
Investigation Underway by PSI Vishnu Jadhav
The case is currently under investigation by Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Vishnu Jadhav. Authorities are working to identify the individuals responsible for the illegal sand extraction and storage. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the operation and hold the perpetrators accountable under the law.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Goa's law enforcement and regulatory bodies to crack down on illegal mining activities, which pose significant threats to the environment and public resources.
