Congress leader demands probe into MMC vehicle damage

Margao: Margao Congress block convener Savio Coutinho on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the damage caused to a vehicle belonging to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) that was deputed for election duty for the Ponda bypolls. The polls were scheduled for last month but were eventually cancelled.

Inspection of the Damaged Vehicle

Coutinho accompanied reporters to inspect the vehicle formerly used by MMC chairpersons. The vehicle was allegedly found vandalised and confined to the basement of the Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex.

Allegations of Unofficial Use

Coutinho said that sources informed him the vehicle was driven by an unidentified person for unofficial purposes, and that during an altercation at an unknown location, the windscreen was smashed with a heavy object.

Demand for Investigation

Coutinho demanded that the district collector and the MMC chief officer file a police complaint and order a thorough investigation. He also insisted that the cost of repairs should not be borne by the public exchequer, regardless of whether the collector’s office or the MMC was responsible for the vehicle at the time of the incident.
