According to an FIR registered at Thane Nagar Police Station, the event occurred on April 2, 2026. The constable was on escort duty, responsible for transporting a prisoner to a Mumbai sessions court and back to the jail. After completing court formalities, the constable returned with the prisoner and began standard entry procedures at the jail's main gate.
At this point, the accused, identified as Avinash Ashok Jadhav, allegedly confronted the constable. Police sources indicate that the conflict originated from an earlier incident outside the court premises. There, the constable had intervened to stop Jadhav's relative from handing over an item to the prisoner, citing strict security protocols.
Alleged Assault and Legal Action Taken
Harboring resentment over this intervention, Jadhav reportedly became aggressive upon reaching the jail. He is accused of slapping the constable, hurling verbal abuse, and issuing a death threat. Jadhav allegedly warned the officer of dire consequences after his eventual release from prison.
Following the constable's complaint, authorities registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include sections pertaining to assault on a public servant, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation.
