Woman and Father Injured in Alleged Knife Attack by Cousin in Cortalim
A shocking incident unfolded in Cortalim, Vasco, on Sunday morning, leaving a 34-year-old woman and her father with serious injuries after an alleged knife attack by her cousin. The attack has sent ripples through the local community, highlighting concerns over family disputes and violence.
Details of the Alleged Attack
According to a complaint filed by the victim's father, Gokuldas Shirodkar, aged 66, the incident occurred around 9:45 AM on an internal road in Vollant, Cortalim. The victim, identified as Shital Palekar, had stepped out to pluck flowers when she was approached by her cousin, Sushant Narshiv Shirodkar, 47.
The accused allegedly began abusing Shital in obscene language, questioning her presence at her parental home despite being married and residing in Carambolim. This confrontation quickly escalated into violence, with police reports indicating that Sushant, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and not on cordial terms with the family, attacked Shital with a knife.
Injuries and Rescue Attempt
During the attack, Shital sustained serious injuries, including strikes to her head and neck. Hearing her cries for help, her father, Gokuldas, rushed to intervene in an attempt to rescue her. In the process, he too was injured, adding to the severity of the situation.
Both Shital and her father were promptly provided with medical assistance following the incident. Their conditions are being monitored, though specific details on their recovery have not been disclosed by authorities at this time.

Local police have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The case is being handled by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar, under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and SP Gurudas Kadam.
